FAQ - practical and organizational
When does the school year begin?
Our school year runs from the first Monday in September through the last weekday in July.
Which holidays is Kidzz closed?
We follow the Spanish and Catalan holidays. We are also closed for two weeks around Christmas and New Year. The month of August is not part of our school year, however, we will open 1 or 2 weeks if there is enough interest.
Do you offer an adaptation program at the start of the daycare?
When your child first starts at Kidzz, we take the time for a careful transition. Therefore, we work with an adaptation schedule: a build-up in days and hours, in which your child gradually gets used to the new environment. During the first few days, one of the parents may remain present for a period of time, so that this presence gives your child confidence. Together we build up step by step to full care time. At an appropriate time, we say goodbye together - always in consultation and tailored to your child's pace. During this adaptation phase, we keep in close contact with you. We understand that this period can be nerve-racking for both you and your child. We stand for open communication and a warm welcome, so that everyone quickly feels at home.
What if my child is sick or on vacation?
You can communicate with us at all times via our app Lillio. On this app we can also be reached after working hours. At Kidzz, we have a sickness protocol that is given to you at the beginning of the school year via our welcome book. In case of illness, we keep in touch through Lillio. In the event there are multiple children suffering from the same symptoms, we forward this information to all parents. If your child becomes ill while attending Kidzz, we will contact you by phone at all times.
Can my child start at any time or are there set start dates?
Registration is available throughout the year, subject to availability.
What does your intake process look like?
We are happy to meet all interested parents on location for a personal interview. In case you (still) live abroad, we will speak via a videocall.
Can my child bring food from home?
You can choose to bring food from home or request catering. We have been working with a caterer in the district for years who delivers fresh food daily. If you cancel in time due to illness or vacation, the catering will not be charged. The caterer also offers vegetarian menus. In addition, the caterer takes allergies and intolerances into account.
FAQ - guidance
Who are the teachers and what is their background?
Who are the supervisors and what is their For this answer, I refer you to the “About Us” page on our website where each staff member introduces themselves. background?
How are emotions and behaviors handled?
We believe it is important that all emotions are allowed to be there. Any feeling is welcome and is part of growing up. We recognize and name our children's emotions and encourage them to tell us why they feel the way they do. Thus, step by step, they learn to recognize, understand and verbalize their emotions. We ask our children if there is anything we can do for them and offer space for support. We also share our own emotions in an appropriate way. By doing so, we set a good example and show that it is healthy to talk about feelings. We have supportive books that we read during read-aloud time that deal with emotions and can help children with their own emotions.
We take a positive approach: we don't just look at behavior, but more importantly at what is behind it. We lovingly guide our children in dealing with their emotions and those of others so that they feel safe, heard and understood.
FAQ - language
My child doesn't speak English. Is that a problem?
Children learn language naturally and playfully, especially in an environment where they feel safe and welcome. With us, children become familiar step by step at their own pace. Because our daily routine is the same every day, words are often repeated. In addition, we sing a lot and use gestures and dances. Many children pick up language faster than you think, and we guide this process with great attention and patience.
If my child comes to Kidzz for English, will (s)he also learn Dutch?
Children who come to Kidzz for English will never be approached in Dutch. Only Dutch will be spoken to the children with a Dutch or Flemish parent. However, children may understand some Dutch words during the year.
FAQ - daily program
What does an average day look like for my child?
For this answer, I refer you to the “Daycare” page where you can see an overview of our daily structure.
What is my child learning with you? Is it mostly play or also learning?
We combine play and learn in a natural and playful way. We believe that young children learn the most while playing. Therefore, we offer a daily structure with a nice balance between free play and organized theme-related activities. During free play, children discover the world around them at their own pace, while developing their imagination and social skills. In the organized activities, we encourage language, motor skills, creativity and cooperation, among other things. Nothing is compulsory; if a child prefers not to participate for a while, that's totally okay. We follow the child's pace and needs.
In addition, we work (with flashcards) with clear, positive rules that provide structure and safety, and teach children how to interact in a nice way. Thus, each child grows in an environment where play, fun and development go hand in hand.
FAQ - safety and well-being
How do you provide a safe environment?
With us, safety always comes first. We provide a safe and familiar environment by being there for the children at all times. Our clear daily structure provides support and predictability, which gives a sense of security. We also take physical safety seriously. Our building meets all applicable guidelines and safety standards. When we go outside, we use buses with safety belts and the children wear recognizable vests with our name on them. This way we can always keep a good overview and the group stays together. We deliberately choose fenced playgrounds where the children can play safely. Finally, we also offer emotional safety: we listen to the children, comfort them when necessary and have conversations with attention and respect, including with parents.
What happens in case of accidents or if a child does not feel well?
All staff members have completed a course in Pediatric First Aid. We will always act in case of accidents. We will inform you immediately, depending on the seriousness we will call you or send a message via whatsapp. We will always post a story in the app.
We follow our sickness protocol at all times.
